Proposals for improving the village play area

The Drayton St Leonard play area committee recently held a public meeting fot the young people of the village (10-18 year olds) and presented the following three phase proposal to the Parish Council on 17th July 2001. The Parish Council is minded to support the proposals and invites villagers to make comments thay may have, in writing to the parish clerk, Mrs Sophie Farrant, by Friday 24th August.

Phase 1

  • Complete the Land rental agreement for extended play area. Arrange for revised insurance, safety inspection and maintenance contracts.
  • Install new 'post and rail' fencing to perimiter and todler area.
  • Install extra play equipment, seating, rubbish bins and bicycle parking, with an emphasis on wooden construction wherever possible.
  • Level and grass new football pitch and install two goals.

Phase 2

  • Replace or renovate existing swings (expected to reach the end of their usefull life within the next two years).

Phase 3

  • Link the perimiter of the new site with a bicycle dirt track and obstacle course.

Additional funding for the project will be sought from local grant-awarding bodies.

The Play Area Committee would like to thank the joung people of the village who attended the meetings for their ideas and comments.
