June 2000 millennium celebrations

To celebrate the Millennium, the village held a whole weekend of activities centred around the annual village fete. This took place from 16th to 18th June 2000. The programme of events that took place is listed below.

The Weekend was a complete success and was well supported by almost the entire village population as well as by many from outside the village. Virtually everything went according to plan and we were even blessed by good weather. The only thing that did not happen was the hot air balloon rides as unfortunately there was just a little too much wind for safety.

Here is a summary of events that took place.

Thursday Evening: The launch of the village history book

Friday Evening: Bingo in the Marquee

Programme for Saturday:
10.15 - 12.00 : Under 8's party (with Monty Millennium)
2.00 - 5.00 : Annual village Fete, with a special attraction (weather permitting) of tethered hot air balloon flights
4.30 - 7.00 : 5-a-side football tournament
8.00 - Midnight : Barn Dance and disco with Ploughmans supper

Programme for Sunday:
10.30 am : Church Service
11.30am : Quarter Peal of the church bells.
12:30 pm : Village Lunch (pig roast)
1.30 pm : Village photograph
2.00 - 5.00 pm : Sports, including: Egg & spoon, Three legged race, Wheelbarrow race, Tug of war.
Presentation of award to Athlete of the village.
