Most Internet users have an email address, mostly provided by their Internet Service Provider. But how many of you have the email address of your choice? You are often limited by what is available and not previously taken and the format is determined by the email provider.

Well now is your chance to get a new email address that not only tells people who you are but where you live. And because this offer is a limited only to residents of the village or with a strong connection to the village then chances are you will be able to have exactly the email address of your choice.

So how will it work? The domain name draytonstleonard.co.uk has been registered on behalf of the village with the primary intention of giving this village web site an obvious location on the Internet. However the domain name is also available as an email domain as well.

Originally this facility was only being used to provide contact points for feedback from users in connection with the web site. But since 1st November 2000 ALL residents of the village can register to use a draytonstleonard.co.uk address as their personal email address.

This would allow you to choose your own email address which would for example be something like fred.blogs @draytonstleonard.co.uk The portion in front of the @ can be anything of your choice (limited to common alphanumeric characters and some punctuation marks), and as this is only open to village residents it is most unlikely that your choice will have previously been taken by someone else.

What are the limitations? Quite simply this is not actually a means of providing an email server in the normal way. It is just an email forwarding service. So you still need your existing email account with your normal email provider. Once you have registered with me your chosen draytonstleonard.co.uk address and the forwarding email address, I will set up the email redirection facility. From then on any emails sent to your draytonstleonard address will appear in your normal inbox. So people then don't need to know the old address any more (though it would still continue to work).

From November 2004 a SPAM FILTER has been added. Presently not much spam is sent to @draytonstleonard.co.uk addresses but it is likely to increase. The filter is an option from the provider of the email service (UK2), and will suffer from the disadvantages of any system of this type. As a spam filter has to be reactive, some spammers will get through by using new techniques until they are found, and a few non spam messages will be mistakenly catagorised as spam.

You will also be able to use the new address for outgoing emails. Depending upon what email program you are using, this could be as simple as changing the text in the "from" box to that of your new draytonstleonard.co.uk address.

The cost: £2 per email address per year, so that's less than 2p per week.
